Eason Chan   Attacking taboo of female

Eason Chan was the first guest singer for the 3rd show of Anita Mui's Classic Moment Live Concert.  Anita Mui said on the stage:  [Among the new singers, Eason's singing has no flaw.  He is gifted with a good voice, should make best use of it.  Talent and idiot are differentiated by just one single thread.  When you are singing you are normal, otherwise you are a bit silly.]

Eason Chan gave a big laugh and replied: [When I was a baby, I was breast fed, so I'm hyper-energetic.]

On the stage, Eason Chan was full of energy, but when he sat down to talk with Big Sister, he stopped being silly, but full of respect.  However, when talking about the female taboo, he became very brave again, and made a dead shot at female.

Started knowing each other when singing duet

Mui:  I always appreciate your singing.   Since you joined the New Singer Contest, I already felt you would have a successful career in singing.  When you came onto the stage, you never looked at the audience.  Your performance told all the people: I enjoy this moment.  Sometimes losing or winning is just like this, when you care too much, you won't win;  when you are not too serious, you got it.

Chan:  Though I got to know you later, I dared not approach you, because you are a super star.  Till 7 or 8 years ago, when we sang a duet in your album "Mui Mui", the name of the song...

Mui:  Should be "Cry together"!

Chan:  When singers cooperate, most of the time, due to their schedule they can't record together. But we were lucky, we could record together.  I remember that night we chatted about many things.  You told me many interesting things about award presentation ceremonies.  Also you gave me many advices about singing.  At that time I realized that Mui Jei is not only a super star, she also can chat like a friend.  That cooperation changed our relationship.

Mui:  There are similarities between us.  We only care about things we are interested in, and would not pay attention to any other things.  Your attitude towards money is same as mine, we are not too serious about it.  If you ask me how much a catty of rice costs, I don't know how to answer you.  But I'm very clear about anything within my work.  You are the same.  If within your field, you are a very talented person.  But all other things, you would say: [Oh, I don't know!]  You are a bit silly, but that makes people feel you are lovely.

Chan:  Many people have misunderstanding about me.  For example, some reporters say that I'm abnormal.  But I think my way of expressing myself could be humorous.  I lived in English for a period of time, the cultural background is different, so the definition about humor is different too.

Mui:  Any difference between British women and Hong Kong women?

Chan:  I seldom categorize people by nationality or sex.  Actually all people are the same...(in deep contemplation) in my impression, modern women are very tough, have their won opinion, and they know how to dress and make up, very trendy, fashion conscious.

Mui:  Does man like this kind of girl?

Chan:  hummmmmmm......Nowadays all girls are very dominant.  Actually from my point of view, as a man, I would like to take care of girls more.  Girls should not make too many decisions, for example, girls always decide where to eat.  Sometimes it is better let us take care of them.

Materialist Girls

Mui:  Any common shortcomings of Hong Kong women?

Chan:  Shortcoming...(again in deep contemplation)  I often heard people say that HK women are greedy about money.  Actually, it's not only women, it is characteristic of all Hong Kong people.  Hong Kong is a materialistic society, money is very important.  This is not a problem of individual or gender, it is the trend of the society.

Mui:  Hong Kong has a population of 7 million people, but a very small city.  There is great competition.  Even looking for a job, one has to have matching qualification, e.g. outlook.  If you don't try, you won't even have the opportunity.  You have to have hair cut, dress better, that means you have to look neat.  When you got the job, if you want to develop in your work, you have to upgrade yourself, to wear a Cartier ring, then people would think this girl has taste.  No other way, the whole society pushes you to do that.

Chan:  Another thing is that Hong Kong women are very conservative on certain things.  For example, when a group of friends are chattering, maybe on the topic of figure, if I ask the female friend her bust measurement, she might have a big reaction. But actually I'm just asking a question, no other motive.  However, some girls are very concerned about that. Another example about physical questions, men won't mind discussing about their physical condition, such as physical change during adolescence.  But some females think this is a taboo.  Such as menstruation is normal physical phenomenon, but it is a taboo of some females to talk about it.   So in this area, Hong Kong women are very conservative.  Girls of other places, even those of Taiwan are more open.

Mui:  I had my adolescence quite late, I was only 4' something when I was 14...

Chan:  (Felt surprised) Really?  I had that (adolescence) early, when I was 15, I already looked like this.

Mui:  My sister and I were what "sister flowers" in the past, she was taller than me by 3 heads, I was very short, but every time I had to act as male.

Chan:  (laughing whole heartedly) That's Eric Tsang matching Fung Wong Lui lor!
