Accused for refusing to
make costumes for the wax statue
Eddie Lau explained the
reasons
About the end of Nov of last year,
we disclosed that the wax statue of the Big Sister Anita Mui will be placed in
the Madam Tussauds Museum at the Peak in Feb of this year. At that time,
we verified with Mui Ma that the image of Ah Mui in [Larger than life] will be
made by Eddie Lau, together with the "wedding look" of [Witch Girl].
Now it is already Feb, and it is said the wax statue will have its
inauguration in March.
It is said the reason for the delay
of the inauguration is that Mui Ma and the Fan Club could not find the
designer to make the 2 costumes. But why the costumes are not
responsible by Ah Mui's best partner during her life, Eddie Lau ?
Someone said it is because of Mui Ma, de facto there is another story.
According to other sources, all
Anita Mui's stage costumes are now under the custody of her Estate Management
Company. Therefore, the costumes for Ah Mui's wax statue must be made.
For this, at the end of last year, Mui Ma contacted Ah Mui's past
image director, Eddie Lau, through So Siu Chun, the good friend and chair
woman of Fan Club, hoping Eddie would make the costumes of the 2 images,
[Larger than Life] & [Witch Girl]. But Eddie Lau refused their
request. Then Ms So tried to contact Chan Wah Kwok, the expert in
costume design for stage, and Cheng Sau Leung, specialized in designing for
celebrities. But since Eddie Lau had always been Ah Mui's image consultant
after she entered her career, according to "the rule of profession",
no other designer can take up the responsibility this time.
Wax Museum responsible for
making the costumes
Eddie Lau rejected Ms So's request,
it is said it was due to the reason that he has always been reprimanded by Mui
Ma after Ah Mui passed away. When verified with Ms So about the delay of
inauguration and the problem of making the costumes, Ms So said: [ I don't
know, please find the answer from the Wax Museum.] The PR of the Wax
Museum said: [It was said the statue would be inaugurated in Feb. or Mar.
But due to technical reasons, it will be finished by end of March, it
can't be considered as late. Mui Zei's family has made suggestions about
what costumes to wear, now they are being made in England. The wax
statue is being made in England, let them handle the costumes, it is better.]
About Mui Ma, in the phone, she sounded quite upset: [I don't know what
responsibility he (Eddie Lau) has, but if he is a man of responsibility, he
won't say such things.]
Eddie Lau: the whole thing is
completely upside down
Being the best partner of Anita Mui
during her life, why Eddie Lau didn't want to make the costumes for her wax
statue? He explained the whole thing in details: [Before the Chinese New
Year, Ms So called me requesting me to make the costumes for the statue.
She said that the image had already been chosen, that was "Larger than
life", but she didn't mention about "Witch Girl". I said
"Larger than Life" is not the image Ah Mui liked most. She
liked the image at the opening scene of "Anita Mui Concert 1995"
most. Ms So said: right, that one was very beautiful too. she
would ask the Museum to change.
